We don’t write about Broadway a lot on this Blog — we have our hands full posting about our own part of Capitol Hill so we usually leave Broadway happenings to somebody else. But this tip seems cool enough to extend our coverage a bit:

Be the Change Seattle: BROADWAY SPRING SWEEP The Broadway Spring Sweep is this Sunday, May 13th. Join volunteers from the neighborhood at 9am for free coffee from Starbucks, bagels from Noah’s Bagels, and a t-shirt. We’ll meet at the WaMu at 301 Broadway E. Susan Shannon, new Director of the OED will welcome the volunteers. The Sweep will begin around 9:30am and will be from the Kinko’s on Roy down to the SCCC campus on Pine. We’ll end at the opening day of the Farmer’s Market at East Thomas, where Councilmember Sally Clark will thank everyone for the participation. Info: www.broadwaybia.org
Thanks for the tip, BtCS.

Sums up what’s wrong with Broadway- coffee from a chain restaurant, bagels from a chain restaurant…
Well, yeah – but, really, sums up what’s wrong with how we buy things EVERYWHERE. The big chains are the only ones who can afford to contribute to these events, often. Sums up what’s wrong with how decisions get made, too. Which indie coffee chain does a gov. bureaucracy approach for this kind of thing? Easy choice is corporate behemoth. But, yeah, it would be nicer if there were fewer chains on Broadway. And every other place on earth.
