Stumptown brings E. Pine flavor to Amsterdam

Stumptown Coffee is bringing its “Northwest flavor” to Amsterdam and a member of its Pine Street crew will be there to help make sure those Dutch shots are pulled to exacting standards. Zachary Carlsen will represent Seattle on the Stumptown all-star team being flown in for the temporary project. Here’s what he tells us he’ll be up to:

This New York Times Magazine piece has details on the genesis of the project:

Duane Sorensen, the owner of Stumptown Coffee Roasters, said he was approached by Sid Lee, a Montreal-based creative agency with a branch in Amsterdam that happened to have a spare La Marzocco espresso machine kicking around in a little-used storefront. Sorensen flew to Amsterdam with seven Chemex coffee brewers and some beans; he returned with the keys to a shop that’s his through the end of July.

Seattle Times reports that the Amsterdam shop opens May 1.

Carlsen also runs coffee news and info site, Sprudge. Its post on the Amsterdam trip alludes to some of the chemical competition Stumptown faces in the market.

So, you’re telling me that I road by this on my bike so many times that I cannot remember, now that I am back in Seattle.

Sad times.
