The Holiday Hawk of Capitol Hill

The Holiday Hawk has returned to Capitol Hill to spread joy and season’s greetings… and to eat small birds. Happy Holidays! And thanks for the awesome picture, neighbors. More on 2010 CHS avian coverage, below.

There’s a Coopers Hawk snacking in my tree right outside my window.  We live on 13th ave E and usually just have hummingbirds and chickadees in our little courtyard.  The hawk has been there for over an hour.  First it ripped apart a small bird and now it is resting on top of the carnage.  Here’s a photo.  Enjoy.

Ah ha! I saw a hawk chasing birds out of a tree on 11th earlier today. Perhaps the same culprit? Pretty bird!

nothing like seeing those immortal words “ripped apart a smaller bird and is now standing on the carnage” to warm your heart for the holidays

Gorgeous hawk!
