A jeep driven by a suspected drunk driver was pursued north on I-5, up the off-ramp to E Olive Way and then onto the on-ramp back to I-5 where the vehicle overturned and the driver was apprehended after trying to flee Washington State Troopers on foot early Monday morning. A WSP trooper involved in the just after 12:30 AM crash used his taser to subdue the suspect, KIRO reports:
Officers followed the driver up the ramp at the Olive Street exit when the suspect hit a curb and rolled into the guard rail above I-5.
The SUV ended up on its roof.
“The suspect who was the sole occupent (sic) of the car attempted to flee on foot. The trooper attempted to detain him at the scene. He actively resisted. He then deployed his taser and was able to get the suspect in custody,” said Trooper Doug Geltz.
The man was not seriously injured in the crash but could face charges including DUI and assaulting an officer.
I think it’s a smaller Land Rover.
Just seems stupid to me to try and run from people with fast dogs and tasers and guns.
In was on a ride along with my cop buddy and we were tracking a runner with a K9 unit, I asked him what I should do if I’m ever on the other side of the chase, he told me to keep running as fast as you can since the dog can not track as fast as you run. If he sees you though, you’re in trouble and probably going to get bit.
