The suspect in an early October robbery attempt on Boylston Ave that left a Capitol Hill man — and CHS community member — with a gunshot wound to the stomach was arrested Thursday night after a standoff with police at a Beacon Hill apartment.
Updated information on robbery/assault barricade arrest in South Seattle
Robbery detectives received information identifying a possible suspect in the October 2nd robbery that occured in the 1700 Block of Boylston Avenue. On December 8th at approximately 10:00 pm, the suspect was located at a residence in the 3700 Block of 14th Avenue South. The suspect barricaded himself inside the apartment. SWAT and Negotiators responded.
Contact was made with the suspect and he eventually gave up and was taken into custody without further incident. He was transported downtown where he was interviewed by Robbery detectives. The 29 year old suspect was later booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Robbery and Assault and an outstanding Department of Corrections Escape warrant.
Police wouldn’t yet provide further details on how the suspect was eventually identified and tracked down but more information will be available soon when the probable cause documents in the case become available.
The victim in the botched hold-up is a frequent CHS commenter. Busbetch told us about the incident via the CHS comments in the days following the shooting:
on being shot in the gut.
Hey Everyone I have an Update. I am the man who was shot in the armed robbery attempt that occurred on Boylston Ave. Sunday night. I feel obligated to share my gratitude and love for all of the people who helped to keep me focused on staying alive. I am pleased to announce that I was only struck by one bullet. That one projectile, amazingly, would enter and leave my body with out touching any vital organs and just grazing my diaphragm… Contrary to some reports, I did not refuse to give this man my wallet. He demanded my wallet and her purse. And as I turned to look at my friend he shot me. At that point, he ran off. I searched my body for the wound, sticking my finger into the bullet hole as I collapsed onto the front steps of the Rialto. To the manager of that building, THANK YOU so much for holding my hand, sharing my pain, and encouraging me to be brave. Your caring heart is an example of the apex of human compassion. You should get a medal. And everyone else made me feel like I was being protected. Thank you all so much.
Following the shooting, police released a description of the suspect and the silver Jaguar he reportedly used as a getaway car.
This is great news.
How are you doing, Busbetch? We all hope you’re doing better, and wish you a speedy recovery.
ok
ok
So glad they caught the guy, I am relieved that you’re healing and moving forward. You were brave and fought for your life – this happened right across the street from my building. Blessings to you always.
This is great news (dependent, of course, on due process being afforded for the accused). Thanks to CHS for keeping this story in the news. I think that without CHS, a bunch of the crimes and other injustices we face on the Hill would not meet with the same positive result. And, thanks to Busbetch for his fortitude in going “public” with his ordeal. His bravery makes the Hill safer for us all.
With that rap sheet, and now this horrendous shooting, I say: Lock him up and throw away the key!
LOL…..but, after he is convicted again, maybe he will qualify for “three strikes and you’re out.” We can hope.
With the fall in prices of manufacturing, body armor is pretty cheap now… roughly $400 for a nice one. I definitely will be wearing one in Beacon Hill.
