Skillet Street Food previews spring menu with free tasting — UPDATE

We’re trying to figure out what the catch is. Skillet is inviting people to Capitol Hill’s new Melrose Market Studios tonight for a free tasting previewing their spring street food menu. You’re supposed to register here — so there’s one small, insignificant catch. But we’re still suspicious. We wrote about the lovely Studios space, here, by the way. If you go, please report back on what those sly Skillet people were up to.

Lame. We weren’t going to post about it at all after noting the RSVP requirements but then when registration was still open today we couldn’t resist. Guess that’s the catch!

just a little while ago:

just a quick note about tonight

PARKING – a couple surface lots around the area at minor and pine- i’d recommend grabing a bus or cab-
WEATHER- come on- it’s Seattle- probably will rain- we’ll have coat and bag check for you, and some tents while you grab a burger from josh at the trailer.
RSVP’s- we’re packed- recommend you show up earlier than later- apparently skillet has a following-

see ya tonight- don’t be shy about wearing your plaid!

if i get there early enough i’ll try and get some pictures. but if it’s as “packed,” as i think it will be, imma likely skip it.

I showed up around 7:00pm, and it was busy, but not packed. The food was good. The music was… bland. The Melrose space was laid out and dressed up well enough, but the decision to strew straw all over a polished concrete floor was ill-considered… more than a few guests nearly slipped and lost their feet.

As far as I could tell, there wasn’t any sneaky agenda or catch, just tables laden with miniature portions of Skillet food and folks digging in and enjoying. Each table was neatly labeled with a cute little chalkboard describing the offerings.

The food… fine, but not terribly memorable. Maybe it was the loud, crowded atmosphere that interfered with the experience of really savoring and considering the bites.

No plaid in evidence as far as I could tell.
