The weekend rush of last minute gift delivery hit a speed bump on Capitol Hill Friday night after a reported carjacking of an Amazon delivery vehicle.
According to East Precinct radio reports, the suspect implied he was armed and forced the delivery person’s mother out of the waiting white Prius during Friday night rounds in the 200 block of Belmont Ave E just before 5 PM.
Seattle Police were able to track the vehicle to South Seattle and spotted it on the move near MLK and Columbia. By the time officers caught up, they found the suspect had ditched the car and apparently fled on foot, according to radio updates.
Police were continuing to search the area.
There were no details on what if anything was recovered from the delivery vehicle.
Friday night’s heist seems a bit less planned than another Amazon delivery carjacking CHS reported on the Hill. In September of 2018, the suspect wore a green motorcycle helmet to cover his face as he attacked the driver from behind, smashing him in the back of the head before leaping into the van and speeding away in the carjacking of an Amazon delivery van in the 200 block of 10th Ave E. We’re not aware of any arrests in that case.
