Police say one person was struck and injured after a truck from the contractor crew working at the site of a toppled utility pole in Madison Valley was ripped off in a reported knifepoint carjacking Wednesday morning that crossed Capitol Hill and ended with the suspect’s arrest along Greek Row near the University of Washington.

The incident began around 5:15 AM near 29th and Madison with a report of a suspect attempting to attack a contract worker with a knife and stealing the large flatbed truck with flashing lights, before speeding away westbound on E Madison.

Officers investigating a carjacking at knifepoint at 29/Madison. Suspect hit and seriously injured one person during his escape. Officers have found and are pursuing the suspect now near 59/Roosevelt. Will update here when we have more information.

According to East Precinct radio updates, the truck was reported headed northbound on Broadway at Yesler at one point doing around 30 MPH.

“The suspect drove through the East Precinct, at one point losing the vehicle’s trailer at Eastlake Avenue East and East Hamlin Street and into the North Precinct, with officers in pursuit as the suspect had already struck and injured one person,” SPD reports.

A Seattle Fire crew was dispatched to 6th and Pine to treat a person for minor injuries where one collision was reported. Crashes and damaged cars were also reported in Eastlake and at 6th and Yesler before police took the suspect into custody near 17 Ave Ne and Ne 47th near the University of Washington around 6:40 AM. UPDATE: SFD reports the person struck at 6th and Pine is a man in his 30s who was transported to the hospital in stable condition. SPD says the man was hit while riding a scooter.

Crews were working at 29th and Madison where a burst of windy, stormy weather sent a toppled utility pole crashing onto a vehicle and into a building Tuesday. There were no reported injuries in that incident. As of Wednesday morning, Seattle City Light reported only 13 customers still without power in the area.
