UPDATE 1/3/2022: Thanks! We fell just a little short of our goal but thanks to some help from a few existing subscribers who increased their monthly rate, we can turn off Google and Amazon network ads for 2022. Happy New Year!

CHS is 100% subscriber and advertiser supported — and still paywall free. Every month, the site generates around $600 in revenue from ads like this one for Amazon Fresh you see in the screenshot on this post. We aren’t involved in selling the ads. CHS just makes a place in its layout for networks from companies like Google to fill with mostly relevant advertising.

Meanwhile… CHS is marking the second year in a row of more than 2 million visitors in 2021 — our eighth year in a row with more than 1 million

The money is enough to pay for around five or six stories a month. But the ads are not popular with many readers. While our advertising spaces for neighborhood businesses tend to bring positive feedback, CHS would love to get out of the network advertising business.
