How tough are times for Capitol Hill bars? Somebody stole Canon’s ’50 Best Bars in the World’ award

Canon said this video shows someone taking its 50 Best Bars in the World award. If you can help identify them, let Canon know.

It’s hard enough for Capitol Hill’s bars to stay in business through a global pandemic but having to deal with thieves adds insult to injury. 12th Ave’s Canon is looking for help tracking down two people the world-renowned bar says took one of the most precious items on its rare and special liquor-stuffed counters and shelves.

Three years after its Capitol Hill debut, Drinks International named Canon number six on its 2014 list of the 50 Best Bars in the World. It was a major honor. And the bar proudly displayed the award for all to see.

Security video posted by the bar from around midnight Saturday shows what Canon says are the two patrons grabbing the award and tucking it quickly away over the weekend.

“Folks, if you wanted an award, I’m sure you’re up for World’s Shittiest Fucking People,” Canon’s message reads.

The theft comes as Capitol Hill bars have also been fighting off rashes of break-ins including Life on Mars which complained earlier this month of yet another burglary of the E Pike venue. The thief in that caper did plenty of damage to the bar to gain entry but didn’t steal anything nearly as valuable as the Canon heist. Life on Mars says its most recent burglar made off with about $6.

Before you give up entirely on humanity, there is still time for whoever has Canon’s award to do the right thing and return it. But as for the money that went missing from Life on Mars, that is probably not coming back. The bar said the booty it lost was only six bucks — but it was six dollars in quarters.

UPDATE: The folks at Drinks International are hooking Canon up with a replacement trophy.

Not sure what POS Canon uses but they should have a credit card and name for whoever was sitting at that seat unless they paid cash.

Canon doesn’t use a POS. They keep the patrons’ tabs on paper and then run the transaction through a standard card reader.

It’s not. Nothing wrong with their post at all.

I agree it’s a little cringe. Reddit-brained.
