Snow and cold: It snowed a bunch, got icy, and Capitol Hill felt its coldest day in 23 years. Some sidewalks still have ice so watch yourself.
- Student and teacher COVID testing: Seattle Schools is part of the frontline as the city emerges from the holiday period and gets ready to go back to work amid surging COVID-19 case totals and questions about whether this variant will end up as damaging to hospitals and as deadly as past strains.
- Goodbyes: Vios has closed. Cafe Presse is closing. And Mia’s also said goodbye.
- City Hall: We have a new mayor.
Recall: It’s over. Here’s how it happened.- More voting: There’s another election coming — in February.
- Overdoses: Officials warn of a fentanyl “Overdose Cluster” after three deaths on Capitol Hill.
- Gun violence: A man was found shot in the chest and rushed to the hospital in the Central District
- Development: This block of Broadway is being planned for demolition of the Jai Thai building to make way for a new affordable housing project. Meanwhile, there are plans to overhaul this E Olive Way office building. UPDATE: The Safeway project will face design review in February.
- Business boost: Pro-business neighborhood groups including the Broadway BIA, the Capitol Hill Business Alliance and GSBA, and the Central Area Chamber of Commerce were awarded thousands in city economic recovery grants powered by federal programs.
- Changes: The periodic changing of the Capitol Hill Station escalators happened.
