Cal Anderson got back to its pre-pandemic, pre-2020 protests ways Friday night with a movie in the park. CHS stopped by for scenes from within — and above — the crowd gathered for the Seattle Parks screening of To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar.
Despite Monday’s turn of chilly July-uary weather, the summer will return to Capitol Hill this week with the return of the Capitol Hill Block Party.
And, later this summer, another legendary community event will also return to the neighborhood. Yes, Capitol Hill Garage Sale Day is coming back.
First comes Block Party. For the first time in three years, the rare three-day, ticketed music festival held on the streets of a core of the city’s nightlife neighborhoods and entertainment districts will go off starting Friday.
Led this year by Diplo, Charli XCX, and Jai Wolf, the CHBP lineup includes a mix of national headliners and Pacific Northwest artists and bands slated to take the main stage at Broadway and Pike starting July 22nd.
For many businesses and parts of the neighborhood’s nightlife communities, the return of the festival is an exciting burst of activity and welcomed opportunity to produce revenue after months facing the health and economic challenges of the pandemic. For others including some who live in the area, the Block Party is a double-edged sword of fenced-off streets and slow business.
The event has typically attracted around 30,000 attendees across its three days.
CHBP tickets including $85 plus fees single-day passes and the full schedule are available at capitolhillblockparty.com.
Meanwhile, the biggest event of the summer comes Sunday, August 14th as the Cal Anderson Park Alliance and CHS bring back Capitol Hill Garage Sale Day. Thanks to help from Seattle Parks, this year’s event has free space registrations. You can learn more and sign up at CAPITOLHILLGARAGESALE.COM.

$85 for a single day? That seems kinda spendy. Is this how much it had cost in the past?
