A boarded-up home destined for demolition to make way for a new 13th Ave townhouse project burned overnight as Seattle Fire assumed a “defensive” strategy to protect nearby homes and structures.
According to radio updates, a neighbor called 911 just before 1 AM to report flames coming from the abandoned 122-year-old house.

Responding crews to the 1100 block of 13th Ave blaze just south of Madison reported the three-story house as a “derelict building” with a “well involved” fire and shifted into the defensive mode to more safely protect the surrounding area.
Crews remained on scene overnight to keep the fire under control.
The cause is under investigation.
According to county and city records, the property is owned by developer Greencity Dev and is being subdivided to create a new townhouse project.
There were no reported injuries.
UPDATE 9/12/2022 9:30 AM: SFD said it is continuing the investigation of what caused the fire. UPDATE x2: The cause of the fire is officially “undetermined,” SFD says, after investigators were unable to pinpoint a cause. There is no damage estimate due to the building’s planned demolition.

I walked past it on the way home the following day and it is sad that such a vintage house was absolutely cooked like it was, let alone belng slated for removal for another townhouse. A true loss.
