Hilloween returns! Broadway Halloween kids carnival is back — Plus, where to trick or treat on Capitol Hill

The weekend is sure to bring plenty of ghouls and boos to the streets of Capitol Hill. Saturday, the AIDS Memorial Plaza above Capitol Hill Station will also be filled with Hilloween.

The Broadway Business Improvement Association will continue a tradition put off in recent years due to the pandemic with Hilloween 2022 taking shape on October 29th.

This year’s event will take place Saturday 1 PM to 4 PM with a free “Kids Halloween Spectacular” carnival hosted by DonnaTella Howe in the AIDS Memorial Plaza above Capitol Hill Station. After, Broadway and area businesses will be ready to hand out candy to young trick or treaters.

There will also be face painting and games, Drag Queen Spooky Storytime with Aleksa Manila, a magician, and the Chaotic Noise Band will be on hand to set kids off on their trick or treating trek down Broadway. Fur children are also invited with plans for a pet costume contest. CHS is, as usual, the happy Hilloween media sponsor.

In addition to the free fun, kids can also enjoy an important new handout this year. Under new statewide spending that surely freaks out Republican candidates for senate, riders 18 and under are now free on public transit including the light rail system.

CHS will also be out roaming the spooky streets over the weekend to capture some of the more grown up fun underway around Pike/Pine and Broadway.

Trick or Treat Hot Zone
As for Monday’s candy acquisition plans, you’ll want to venture into the Capitol Hill Trick or Treat Hot Zone on the blocks surrounding 16th Ave E and E Aloha near Volunteer Park. With festivities muted in recent years, the trick or treating has been a little more calm and quieter but you’ll still find crowds. Don’t try to drive and definitely don’t park in the area. It’s best to either jump on a nearby Metro bus line or arrange to be dropped off on the edges of the zone.

Happy Hilloween!
