Construction for the bike, pedestrian, and car safety overhaul of Melrose Ave will bring closures for drivers this week.
The Seattle Department of Transportation says Melrose between Pike and Pine will be closed to motor vehicles for up to six hours a time while concrete is poured for a new raised intersection. “Businesses are still open!,” SDOT reminds.
The Melrose Promenade project has taken shape with years of community feedback for a $4.3 million overhaul including improvements at E Pike, E Pine, E Denny Way, and E Olive Way with a new raised intersection and at Melrose and E Pike St, raised community crosswalks at E Pike and E Pine, and new curb bulbs and crosswalks at the intersection of E Olive Way and Melrose to improve safety at the I-5 on-ramp entrance.
Construction is expected to be wrapped-up this fall.

Making Pine/Pike completely car free in Cap Hill and allowing restaurants and businesses to spill out on the streets would make a HUGE difference on how we participate and enjoy our neighborhood. There’s enough alternative roads around those streets to do it.
Time to make it happen.
