Seattle Police investigated an apparent shootout that left one person with non-life threatening injuries near 24th Ave and Columbia on a night of gun violence around the city including a fatal shooting in the International District.
Multiple callers reported shots fired in the Central District around 10:45 PM Wednesday. Arriving officers found one person with a gunshot injury to the arm and shell casings from multiple weapons on the ground, according to East Precinct radio updates.
Seattle Fire was called to the scene to treat the male patient who was transported by private ambulance in stable condition for further treatment.
There were no reported arrests.
UPDATE: SPD reports the person shot was a 21-year-old man who was with another person who was uninjured. SPD says they found more than 40 shells casings at the scene from at least four different weapons:
A 21-year-old male was injured, and detectives are searching for suspects after gunfire erupted in the Central District Wednesday night.
Shortly after 10:30 p.m., officers responded to multiple reports of shots fired near the intersection of 24th Avenue and East Columbia Street. When officers arrived, they found two victims; one was uninjured, and the other had been shot in the arm. Officers provided aid until medics arrived. The injured victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition.
The exact circumstances leading up to the shooting are unknown. No suspects have been identified. Police processed the scene for evidence and located more than 40 shell casings of four different calibers.
The Gun Violence Reduction Unit will be leading the investigation.

The shooting was part of a night of multiple shots fired incidents in the city. Earlier in the night, a man was found shot on the sidewalk near 12th and Main. SPD says the man died on the way to the hospital. Police were investigating what led to the fatal shooting. There were no reported arrests.
The shootings come as a slate of public safety-focused leaders at City Hall have been starting 2024 with efforts to address the challenges of addiction and gun violence. CHS reported this week on the first community public safety meeting held by newly elected District 3 representative Joy Hollingsworth.
Meanwhile, if you heard small explosions, the night also included multiple reports of fireworks and loud booms including a display that lit the sky above Capitol Hill.
