Possible repeat bandit unsuccessful in E Madison armed bank robbery attempt

A possible repeat offender was unsuccessful in his attempt to hold up the E Madison Bank of America at gunpoint Monday afternoon.

Police were called to the bank in the 1300 block of E Madison just before 4 PM to the reported hold-up.

According to East Precinct radio updates, the suspect brandished a handgun and attempted to rob the bank but fled without any cash. It isn’t clear why the suspect gave up on the heist.

According to police radio, the man matched the description of a suspect in another robbery attempt at another area bank on Saturday. Police said the suspect appeared to be wearing the same clothing during the hold-up attempts. He was described as a light-skinned black male around 6-foot tall and was wearing a yellow or brown sweater, surgical mask over his face, and jeans and a red beanie.

The suspect was last seen fleeing on foot westbound from the bank.

There were no reported injuries and no arrests.
