An image from the scene posted to the CHS Facebook GroupFirefighters battled a two-alarm blaze Friday morning that damaged one of this stretch of 12th Ave’s remaining small apartment buildings and threatened nearby buildings but caused no injuries.
Seattle Fire was called to the Kaylin Lee Apartments building just after 4:30 AM and quickly escalated the response to the fire that started in one of the structure’s nine units.
SFD reported the fire under control just before 5 AM and said no injuries were reported. Firefighters were able to prevent flames from leaping to nearby structures.
Damage to the 1960-era apartment building was being assessed and the cause of the fire was being investigated.
Service providers were being contacted to assist residents displaced by the incident.
12th Ave between Denny and Howell was closed to traffic during the response.
UPDATE: SFD says Investigators ruled the cause of the fire as accidental likely caused by an overheated electrical power strip that ignited nearby combustible materials.
One occupant is displaced and received assistance from the Red Cross.
