Investigators say the suspect in a domestic violence shootout with police at an E Madison apartment last month died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The King County Medical Examiner says Daniel Jolliffe, 53, died by suicide.
CHS reported here on the Friday, June 20th shootout and standoff as Jolliffe attacked a woman at the Broadmoor-area apartment complex. The victim was shot in the back and treated at Harborview in serious condition but survived the ordeal.
Police body camera video released after the incident showed Jolliffe and responding police exchanging gunfire in the early morning incident as the victim was hit and officers struggled to safely move her from the courtyard as they were pinned down by the assailant. SPD says Jolliffe was also hit during the exchange.
Police and SWAT locked down the area for hours following the shootout after Jolliffe retreated inside the building. He was later found dead inside.
Jolliffe was convicted in 1993 at age 21 of murder for shooting two men during a fight in Pioneer Square. He was released and had been free for years after serving half his 27-year sentence.
The investigation of the police shooting continues. Officer Leonardo Bassi Rodriguez has been placed on administrative leave per department policy.
