There is a change in leadership on Capitol Hill. The neighborhood’s tiniest brewery is now making Capitol Hill beer under its new owner.
CHS reported here on beer maker Amory Carhart’s decision to purchase 12th Ave’s Outer Planet in a last minute deal as the 2015-born brewery was about to be shut down.
The “nanobrewery” didn’t skip a beat as Carhart said he intended to keep on Outer Planet’s crew and keep the new brews flowing, sticking to the recipes that established Outer Planet. “I have a vision and that is to keep it European inspired,” he told CHS in September.
Carhart has been working in the industry for about six years since graduating from the South Puget Sound Community College’s Craft Brewing & Distilling program.
The Outer Planet closure was about to join a string of tough news for Capitol Hill-brewed beer. In June, CHS reported on the shutdown of another rare mix of mixed-use and beer-making as the Redhook microbrewery below Capitol Hill’s Pike Motorworks mixed-use development was permanently closed after eight years of production on E Pike.
Its rebirth is also part of new starts along 12th Ave after a string of shutdowns to end summer. More good news is coming for a few of the street’s empty spaces.

New owners def trying to improve it. Doing more events, even had a pizza pop up the other weekend. The previous owners were fine but it seemed a new energy was needed. Their beers are solid if not elite for Seattle scene and I do appreciate they have sours on tap, not endless IPAs.
If they hadn’t swept in you’d have had back to back blight with the burned down building and an empty storefront with outdoor shelter that would have turned into a foil zombie zone. So thanks!
