Somebody dropped off what looked like 10 pounds of cocaine in front of the East Precinct headquarters Sunday afternoon.
Police say the unknown subject left a yellow container filled with “multiple clear plastic baggies containing a white powdery substance” at the front entrance to the precinct at 12th and Pine just before 12:30 PM.
“A field test confirmed that the substance was cocaine, with a total weight of 4,588 grams,” SPD reports.
Cocaine at that volume could be worth more than $150,000 depending on quality.
The Seattle Police Department says subsequent testing showed the powder was probably worth a lot less. East Precinct cops transported the haul to another precinct headquarters where police used the department’s TruNarc testing system “which provides more accurate narcotic identification.”
“The substance was subsequently identified as a mixture of polyethylene and baking powder with a small amount of cocaine,” SPD reports.
It is unclear why the drop-off was made. While unhealthy, inhaling the plastic powder mix would have been mostly harmless.
SPD says it is also investigating another weird, potentially more threatening delivery to a precinct entrance over the weekend. Saturday afternoon, police say “an unknown suspect placed what appeared to be a military ordnance mine in front of the Southwest Precinct along with a camera.”
The bomb squad responded and determined the item “to be an imitation device,” SPD says.
There were no reported injuries or arrests.
