“Come experience an 8.0 earthquake!,” the Seattle Office of Emergency Management invited. Wednesday afternoon at the Seattle World School along E Union, dozens of people took them up on the offer.

The simulator, powered by four hydraulic lifts to simulate a real earthquake’s powerful waves, is billed as “the world’s largest mobile earthquake simulator.” Operator and provider of preparedness and seismic supplies Ready America says the simulator helps show people the importance of “drop, cover, and hold” and making sure top heavy furniture is well-braced.

Wednesday, a lot of people found out that an earthquake — at least a simulated one — can also be kind of funny.
