Mayor to appear at ‘Where do we go from here?’ forum at Seattle U

Public appearances and community forums used to be a regular component of being a public official before the pandemic. Monday night, Seattle University will host what these days is a rare in-person session with Mayor Bruce Harrell. You are invited to attend.

The “Meet the New Seattle Mayor: Where Do We Go From Here?” forum takes place Monday starting at 6:30 PM in Seattle U’s Pigott Auditorium:

Seattle has been through tough times, no doubt. The new mayor takes a few moments out of his busy City Hall schedule to meet students and constituents and discuss steps to move the city forward. Weโ€™re talking about all of it — public safety, downtown revitalization, housing and overall well-being of the city. Harrell will be interviewed on stage . by Larry Hubbell, professor, Joni Balter, journalist, and several students. Presented by Seattle University’s Institute of Public Service’s “Conversations Series.” For your safety and the safety of others, all guests attending the event will be subject to bag check before entry into the event.

Harrell has been making rounds in the media talking about his first 100 days in office including what his administration says is success in addressing street crime and disorder with increased “hot spot” policing and more rapid deployment of resources to conduct outreach and clear encampments.

In February, Harrellโ€™sย first โ€œState of the Cityโ€ address focused on a Seattle emerging from years of pandemic restrictions and small steps โ€” including city workers beginning to return to their offices โ€” he said will set the stage for recovery.

Monday night’s session will also be featured on the Seattle Channel which helps co-produce the event series with Seattle University. You can register to attend the event in person here.

The looming question on the minds of every person swept from an encampment.

Focus all efforts on reducing homeless populations on public spaces, and reducing violent and non-violent crimes.

The rest will literally sort itself out – Seattle has great attractions, amazing outdoors, employment opportunities, and good culture/food.

Just make it safe for people; the rest will happen.

What will the mayor do about the people he’s sweeping and where will he allow them to live? And why is the mayor going back on so many promises? Just two questions I’d ask.
