CHS 08 In Review - How it began

Capitol Hill's 2008 began with ugly crime -- a young woman heading home on the Hill on New Year's eve stabbed to death just outside her condo's door. The sad event sparked a lot of fear -- people were afraid to walk the streets alone in the weeks that followed until an arrest was made. Turns out, there was not a serial killer in our midst -- only a sick and angry man. While not to the degree of the fear it created, the sad event set in motion an increased awareness of the community issues on Capitol Hill. Meanwhile, Capitol Hill got on with the things in life that also matter -- the weather, new restaurants, kittens and community councils.

• It snowed.
• Economic downturn started saving Hill architecture.
• WET was robbed.
• A pillow fight broke out at Cal Anderson.
• It was announced that Ellen Forney's handiwork would be part of the light rail station.
• Manray fell.
• They made a movie in Volunteer Park.
• The Saint's SuperTeal paint job was born.

FEBRUARY 2008

• hillku took over CHS. Like I mentioned above, importing the content over from blogger makes it look like 'jseattle' wrote everything but, these, I assure you, are the fine, fine work of the hillkusters:

  + CHS goes downhill (wherein many of our CHS neighborhood names were born)
• Victrola was sold.
• We were finally out late enough to eat at Tacos Gringos (a sparklingallison post).
• An evil person stole kittens from Twice Sold Tales.
• City talked about capping I5 to connect the Hill to downtown.
• Main Pride events moved downtown.
• You caucused.

JANUARY 2008

• There was talk of reviving the community council.
• hillku defeated the coyotes.
• We dissed Kurrent.
• We told you how to be a naughty pedestrian on 15th Ave E.
• James Anthony Williams was arrested for the murder of Shannon Harps.
• Harps murder witness taken into custody, eventually cleared.
• Harps murder 'suspect' sketch turns out to only be 'witness.'
• Shannon Harps was murdered on New Year's eve.
