We’re reviewing the year that was in reverse. In part 1, you can enjoy instant nostalgia in recounting how 2008 came to a close. In this edition, we sum up Capitol Hill’s summer months — warm days with a fair share of CHS’s typical pontifications on life, etc. and a few serious notes here and there.

- We noted terrifying sharrows on 10th Ave.
- The new Vivace location on the north end of Broadway opened.
- Project hillcats 2008 was completed. And, yes, there were t-shirts, one-star person.
- We projected a winner in the 2008 presidential race.
- We pondered our yuppie/hipster/gay ratio.
- The Buck opened. Vino Verite opened. Crave found out it was closing.
- Two parks needed a name. Some other parks appeared on city streets.
- Empty buildings on Broadway were filled with art.
- We started asking about a community space being part of the Capitol Hill light rail station plans.
- We mapped the Hill’s cobblestones.
- Lowell got a new mural. Pike/Pine got a new mural.
- P/P also found out it was getting ice cream.
- Gasp. Dick’s was closed for a few days of construction.
- Scary accident at Broadway gas station.
- Nature attacked. Tree vs. houses.
- 14th Ave E street parkers were forgiven in aftermath of Hill’s rained-out car-free Volunteer Park Day.
- We described Capitol Hill in three words.
- August was rainy. But it was also hot.
- Capitol Hill got more outdoor seating.
- We documented the stairs of CHS.
- Another shoe-based art project appeared.
- Spinasse hit the scene.
- The toobs returned to Volunteer Park.
- CHS proved definitively that the Hill is hilly.
- A mystery flutist appeared on 15th Ave E.
- One solution to graffiti problem was discussed.
- Thuggery occurred in Miller Park.
- Pike got crossing flags, lost them.
- The Hill celebrated Night Out.
- CHS decided there is nothing too small to cover.
- We made a cool bus map.
- I made a fool of myself on the radio. Again.
Many things Capitol Hill were noted ‘for sale’- We bitched about empty buildings on Broadway.
- Somebody asked about starting a new Capitol Hill parade.
- People wanted to save the 15th Ave E Starbucks.
- The Critical Mass incident brought car vs. bike thing to a head.
- Hill’s best summer job identified. Worst apartment, too.
- CHS had a happy hour, sent El Tajin into death spiral.
- More fancy eats. Olivar debuted. Meanwhile, Monsoon owner had a rough summer.
- Bruce Lee posted from beyond.
- 1st annual Capitol Hill Sustainability Festival was held.
- Two major sporting events occurred — bikes & ducks.
- There were iPhone geeks on Capitol Hill.
- You lost power.
- The Volunteer Park Reservoir was unnaturally blue.
- The cow mural of 19th Ave E became dust.
