A couple of weeks ago, CHS announced the 2019Capitol Hill Garage Sale Daywould not be happening this August.
That was true.
It’s happening in September.
Short notice? Maybe — but it’s good to stay nimble. Thanks to the Cal Anderson Park Alliance and friends, CHGSD 2019 will be Sunday, September 8th with a community sale in Cal Anderson from 10 AM to 3 PM.
You can REGISTER NOW for a space in the park — or let us know about your hastily arranged but still totally awesome yard/parking strip/garage/alley/stoop sale for the Garage Sale Day map.

A year ago, the ninth annual Capitol Hill Garage Sale Day took place. If there is going to be a tenth, we’re sorry to say it won’t be this week. Meanwhile, as a reminder that there are still plenty of good things happening in Cal Anderson Park, here are a few photographs from last weekend’s Jockstraps & Glittercharity kickball game. Who won? Who knows — but money was raised for a good cause. You can also give to the AMP: AIDS Memorial Pathwayhere.
From its earliest days, CHGSD was extremely grassroots and low overhead. It grew a bit thanks to help from neighborhood nonprofits joining CHS in wrangling participants and helping nail down space every year for the central community sale space. In 2019, the grassroots effort never really grew. CHS has been busy CHSing and our past partners also have had busy years.
Will there be a Capitol Hill Garage Sale Day in 2019? We’re certainly going to miss summer. But we’re looking at options for something different to keep the, um, streak alive as the event reaches its tenth year. Stay tuned.
Let’s do 10. Sunday’s ninth annual Capitol Hill Garage Sale Day again drew crowds to Cal Anderson Park for a central gathering of community rummage, vintage, and treasure tables. Many of the day’s best bargains were also found at sales on surrounding streets. Organized again by CHS, the Capitol Hill EcoDistrict, and the Cal Anderson Park Alliance, the event focused on community — and fabulous re-use — continues to grow. Have ideas for next year? Let us know in comments.
From humble beginnings in the People’s Parking Lot, Capitol Hill Garage Sale Day has grown into quite a thing. Now in its ninth year, CHGSD is this Sunday, August 19th. CHS used to organize the whole thing ourselves — now we have a lot of help:
The Cal Anderson Park Alliance invites all local treasure seekers to enjoy an afternoon of bargain hunting that promises something for everyone. On Sunday, August 19th, residents all over Capitol Hill will populate their front lawns, apartment stoops and Cal Anderson Park with heirlooms, antiques and bric-a-brac for sale as a part of the “9TH ANNUAL CAPITOL HILL GARAGE SALE DAY” from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. For this one-of-a-kind neighborhood event, no garage is no problem! Seattleites are invited to join their Capitol Hill neighbors in Cal Anderson Park for five hours of bargain shopping, DJ music and sun. In addition, this year, shoppers can access an online map of Capitol Hill neighbors who will be simultaneously hosting a more traditional garage/stoop/yard/sidewalk sale in front of their homes. This map is available on the event website or at the Garage Sale information tent in Cal Anderson Park. In Cal Anderson Park, event goers will be treated to an afternoon of upbeat dance-floor favorites courtesy of DJs LA Kendall. Alongside neighborhood purveyors of wonders there will also be knife sharpening courtesy of the Sustainable Capitol Hill Tool Library, as well as tasty beverages and treats available at the Capitol Hill Farmers Market just a block away (open from 11:00am until 3:00pm).
So far, we count around 90 sales on the official map. If past years are any indication, expect a lot of “off map” surprises around the neighborhood, too.
Thanks much to our friends at CAPA, Capitol Hill Housing and the Capitol Hill EcoDistrict, and you, salers and shoppers, for being part of the fun. See you Sunday. Continue reading →

Speaking of one person’s trash as another person’s come-up, we have a big announcement about this year’s Capitol Hill Garage Sale Day.
Last year’s move into Cal Anderson went swell! After lots of feedback, CHS and the Cal Anderson Park Alliance have decided to move CHGSD 2015 back in the summer to August. And we’re going to hold the annual day of yard sales, alley sales, sidewalk sales, apartment sales, front stoop sales, parking strip sales, and community lot sales on a Sunday to better line up with the weekly Broadway Farmers Market.
Mark your garage sale-ing calendars for Sunday, August 9th, 2015. More details, sign-up information, etc. to come.
2014 is a big year for Capitol Hill Garage Sale Day. In its sixth year(!), there are 90+ yard sales, garage sales, rummage sales and sidewalk sales on and around Capitol Hill Saturday.
UPDATE: We’ve added pictures from the day — holler if you have more we can share. Thanks for being part of Capitol Hill Garage Sale Day!
We also are happy to have grown into an amazing new venue for the annual community lot. Working with new Garage Sale Day organizer the Cal Anderson Park Alliance, the neighborhood’s central park will be put to great use with more than 30 sales slated to take place in the meadow. Continue reading →
