With Paneer Burgers and Masala Fries, Bombay Burger now open on Capitol Hill

A classic beef burger ended up on the menu but the rest of Bombay Burger’s offerings are straight out of Maharashtra.

The new Capitol Hill burger joint is now open along E Madison at 15th Ave in the space of a former pho shop.

CHS talked with Seattle Indian restaurant veteran Amardeep Singh about his latest project earlier this year pairing classic Indian dishes with the American sandwich format.

The result is a menu full of options far beyond the sacred cow including a Bombay Chicken Burger, a Paneer Burger, or a Aloo Tikki Burger with a “grilled potato patty, onion, tomato, lettuce, spices, mayo, cheese, ketchup and chutney.”

Prices are affordable — burgers range from $6 to $8 with $12 combos adding fries and a soda. Bombay Burger also offers shakes and desserts including gulab jamun and mango cake. You can also get a mango lassi or a chai tea.

Bombay joins a neighborhood burger scene that includes Broadway classic Dick’s Drive-in, Pike/Pine original Li’l Woody’s, Broadway’s 8oz Burger, Portland import Little Big Burger, 12th Ave’s Katsu Burger, and Madison Valley peak’s Two Doors Down, and First Hill’s 206 Burger which also offers some flavors of India on a bun on the other end of Madison.

The opening is part of a small but sturdy set of new joints debuting in the reopening phase of the pandemic around Capitol Hill. On E Pike, Top Chef contestant Shota Nakajima is marking the grand re-opening of his neon-lit bar Takunow with “twice-fried karaage nuggets” and wings.

Other recent openings include the expansion of Carmelo’s Tacos to a full restaurant setup on 12th Ave, its new neighbor Boon Boona Coffee next door, Flight Wine + Chocolate at 13th and Pike, Lobster Daddy in the kitchen of 11th Ave’s Vermillion, and KJ’s Bar taking over the former Kessler’s on E Olive Way.

Bombay Burger is now open daily 11 AM to 10 PM at 1420 E Madison. You can learn more and order online at bombayburgerseattle.com.

Tried the paneer burger this week, it was delicious and priced well! I loved that you can choose your spice level 1-5.

Looking forward to trying the lamb burger — I miss the one at Cedars on Broadway. (Hope I can get feta or the like instead of Swiss or American.)
