The Seattle School Board has delayed a vote that could bring return a Seattle Police officer assigned to Garfield High School.
The board has been lined up Wednesday to decide on a proposed School Engagement Officer pilot program hoped to support “safety, not discipline” as officials have worked to address concerns about gun violence and gang activity around the 23rd Ave campus. Continue reading

King County officials say that despite a Seattle real estate development group standing to make a cool $10 million or more on the flip, they are paying a fair market price for the Broadway and Union medical facility slated to be transformed into a new mental health Crisis Care Center by 2027.
The “assignment fee” in the county’s $42 million deal for the Polyclinic/Optum building has been a key issue for critics of the plan and was the center of questions from King County Council budget committee chair Rod Dembowski as his committee ultimately voted to move funding for the $56 million project forward earlier this month.
“A one year flip for $10 million? The intermediary got a really good deal,” Dembrowski said during the committee proceedings. Continue reading

The Capitol Hill Community Council is marking the one year anniversary of its revival next week with a September meeting featuring Seattle City Councilmember Joy Hollingsworth.
The CHCC will be having its 1 Year Anniversary meeting September 24th 6:30-8pm at Seattle Central College (map) (and streaming and details). The first anniversary is traditionally paper, which seems fitting given all the posters that have been put up around the neighborhood. The first meeting you might recall was the September 10th 2024. Even though it was the same night as the only Harris-Trump debate, so many people showed up that the CHCC had to turn people away.
The District 3 representative will be fresh off her work leading the council comprehensive plan committee to the finish the line for the city’s next 20-year growth plan and ready to dig in on her part in the council’s end of year budget work. Continue reading
Capitol Hill’s pioneering cocktail destination Tavern Law has new ownership, with Brazilian/American restaurateur Saulo Cruz and tech industry veteran Kenneth Jones taking over the 12th Ave establishment they hope to elevate while preserving what makes it special.
The duo represents an interesting blend of experience and fresh perspective. Cruz has operated La Fontana in Belltown for four years with another business partner — Rodrigo Parisi, managing partner of Capitale Pizzeria on Broadway.
Jones, who moved to Seattle just a year and a half ago, brings a hospitality-focused background from the tech industry.
Their partnership has an unexpectedly personal foundation. “His wife, I consider my adopted daughter because she is my daughter’s best friend,” Cruz explains. When both families moved to Seattle years apart, the connection deepened. “Her family is far away, so we took her in. She’s part of the family.” Continue reading

One man was reported shot in the neck and police were looking for multiple suspects who reportedly fled in a vehicle in a shooting Wednesday night at 10th and Pike.
According to East Precinct radio updates, police were called to the area around 9:30 PM where they found a seriously injured victim inside a gold Chevy Tahoe in the middle of 10th Ave.
Seattle Fire was called to the scene to treat the victim and take him to Harborview.
UPDATE: SPD reports the 26-year-old man was declared dead upon his arrival at the hospital.
Police were searching for three to four reported assailants last seen fleeing the area by car. Continue reading
A suspect was in custody and police were trying to sort out what went down after an Amazon delivery driver reportedly opened fire with a handgun in some sort of disturbance near 25th and Prospect on the eastern edge of Capitol Hill.
Police were called to the area just before 3:30 PM Wednesday to the reported shots fired incident and were given the challenging assignment of trying to track down an Amazon delivery van reported leaving the area. Continue reading

The Punk Rock Flea Market will rock 15th Ave E again this weekend.
The end of summer edition of the PRFM returns Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to the emptied neighborhood QFC it has been keeping active and in motion while developers wait to eventually dig in on a new mixed-use development on the street.
The transformed “Quality Flea Center” has also been the home of the CHASM Capitol Hill Autonomous Swap Meet every third Saturday as well as a random mix of events and markets.
It stands at the center of a block of temporary activity developer Hunters Capital has assembled while it waits for permits, construction crews, and financial conditions to align so it can someday demolish the block and dig in on a planned six-story development.
CHS reported here on the temporary stay for art and cafe space LOVECITYLOVE on the block. Another smaller commercial space is home to a temporary pop-up of Haunted Burrow Books and its offerings of “horror, dark fantasy, sci-fi, and other moody genres.”
Not everything new on 15th is temporary. Mac and Milo’s Barbershop has opened in the former Casita International Gift Shop space.
