Police and Seattle Fire respond to Melrose after man reported with gunshot wound to leg

Seattle Police and Seattle Fire responded Thursday afternoon after a 911 caller reported a man at E Olive Place and Melrose said he had been shot in the leg.

According to police and fire radio updates, officers arrived at the scene around 12:45 PM where the man was located and found the victim was bleeding from his leg. The 911 caller reported no gunfire was seen or heard in the area.

Seattle Fire was at the scene to evaluate and treat the man’s injuries. UPDATE: SFD reports it treated a man in his 50s who was transported to the hospital in stable condition. UPDATE x2: Police say they are investigating. The victim was unable to provide suspect information and police were working to determine details of the shooting.

Explosions reported as fire scorches St. Mark’s greenbelt

Flames burned below St. Mark’s Cathedral Wednesday night as Seattle Fire battled a stubborn brush fire in the nearby greenbelt on the western edge of Capitol Hill above I-5.

Seattle Fire units were called to the scene along the 1300 block of Lakeview Ave E just after 8:30 PM as the fire spread and explosions were reported at an encampment in the brushy area. Continue reading →

One dead in 18th Ave house fire — UPDATE

One person was found dead as firefighters battled an early evening fire in a house near 18th and Madison Wednesday.

Seattle Fire confirmed a person was found dead inside the two-story house as crews continued to battle the blaze first reported in the 1600 block of 18th Ave just before 5:30 PM.

Neighbors reported a non-ambulatory elderly male lived at the residence with pets. Continue reading →

  • Williams Place encampment fire: Seattle Police and Seattle Fire were called to the encampment in Williams Place Park Sunday afternoon after an explosion and a fire damaged tents and belongings but caused no reported significant injuries. Officers and firefighters were called to the park at 15th and John just before 2 PM to a report of an explosion and fire burning the public space. Officers arrived to find one tent fully engulfed and a second scorched by the blaze. Police say the tent owner was not present at the time of the incident and witnesses said the fire appeared to be an accident and reported no suspicious activity at the encampment. SPD says it couldn’t be determined what caused the fire and explosion but officers reported numerous flammable items including fuel canisters in the park. “Several encampments were entirely destroyed,” advocacy group Be:Seattle  reports. “The people living there lost their shelter and all of their belongings.” You can learn more about how to donate items to help here. 911 | Broadway gas station stick-up thwarted

  • Gas station stick-up: Police say the suspect in an attempted armed robbery at the Broadway and Pike Shell Station’s mini mart was thwarted by a fast moving employee. According to SPD, the suspect entered the store just before 8 PM Tuesday, grabbed some candy, and went to the counter. “When the clerk attempted to scan the item, the suspect produced a black semi-automatic handgun and pointed it at the clerk demanding money and cigarettes,” the SPD report reads. Police say the clerk jumped behind cover and out of sight of the suspect who fled the store southbound on Broadway. Police searched the area but made no arrests.
  • Dick’s gunman: Last week’s messy incident that ended with a car crash on Broadway and two officers suffering minor injuries during a foot pursuit started when a man pulled a gun in an altercation with an employee at the Broadway Dick’s Drive-in. According to the SPD report on the Tuesday, March 2nd incident, the suspect got into a “verbal altercation” with the employee at the drive-in just before 3 PM. “Subject assaulted the employee and then produced a pistol from his waistband,” the SPD report reads. “Subject pointed the pistol at everyone at the drive-in, both employees and customers, before fleeing the area in a vehicle at a high rate of speed.” The driver crashed only blocks away on Broadway just before Madison, hitting two other vehicles and a building. Overnight burglary temporarily closes 15th Ave E Walgreens

QFC is leaving the street but 15th Ave E’s big chain pharmacy Walgreens is only temporarily closed.

Shoppers and customers hoping to have prescriptions filled found the 500-block pharmacy shuttered Saturday morning.

According to East Precinct radio updates, police were called to the store around 2AM to a break-in. It’s not clear how much damage was done beyond a smashed front glass door and what if anything was taken from the store but police were looking for a suspect wearing a dark hoodie with a white backpack and white gloves believed to have used a crowbar or a baton to bust the glass and break in. The suspect was last seen fleeing through the store’s parking lot, headed south, just before police arrived. Continue reading →

Underground fires and evacuations after Central District gas leak — UPDATE

Fire shot from utility covers and burned through asphalt Wednesday as a natural gas leak ignited in the Central District.

Seattle Fire and Puget Sound Energy were responding as homes and businesses in the surrounding blocks were evacuated out of concern about the burning gas. Streets in the area were also closed to traffic.

Power has been turned off in the area affecting about 2,000 customers.

The incident began around 11 AM according to 911 logs.

One reported to hospital in Quinalt Apartments fire — UPDATE

Seattle Fire swarmed the area around Boylston and Mercer Monday after smoke was reported at the 1925-built Quinalt Apartments building.

Two people were reported in need of medical attention including one victim in his 30s who suffered smoke inhalation and a second suffering an asthma attack. UPDATE: Seattle Fire says the woman in her 20s who suffered the attack was also taken to the hospital in stable condition. SFD says a third patient, a man in his 70s, was treated at the scene and a firefighter who suffered a minor injury was also taken to Harborview for evaluation.

Man dies in fall onto I-5 Olive Way exit

A person died Friday morning after falling onto the Olive Way exit from I-5.

Washington State Patrol arrived at the offramp just after 7:30 AM. Seattle Fire was called to the scene but the victim did not survive.

The WSP said it was determined the man had fallen or jumped and no vehicles were involved in the incident.

  • Likelihood heist: Capitol Hill high end sneaker and fashion shop Likelihood was the target of a bizarrely brazen break-in Tuesday night that ended with a smashed window and a smashed car nearby where the getaway vehicle in the heist crashed into a tree. Three suspects were caught on video during the ripoff, Seattle Police say, but only one was caught trying to flee on foot from the E Madison crash near the IHOP only a block from the chaotic burglary.
